2016 Eftpos bug is dead and buried

20/01/2010

Bank of Queensland has confirmed that the issue associated with the BOQ EFTPOS terminals displaying an incorrect year 2016 was due to a software error in the merchant terminal. This issue has now been resolved.

The issue occurred on 1 January 2010 on merchant terminals where the year of 2010 was incorrectly interpreted as 2016.The incorrect interpretation of the date caused transactions to be declined as cards appeared to be expired.

A temporary solution was available and implemented from Saturday, 2 January that enabled affected merchants to use the terminal to accept payments. A permanent software change has now been tested and implemented that resolves the issue.
