Car Insurance: Think You're Covered, Think Again

You know that Comprehensive Car Insurance covers you for loss or damage caused to and by your vehicle but how much do you know about the exclusionary clauses, or the terms and conditions that apply? It is crucial that you have a look at your PDS and know exactly what you are not covered for. Read on to learn about a few common exclusionary clauses.

Car roadworthy

It is very important to keep your car in a safe and road worthy condition. If not, you are risking the safety of your passengers and the safety of others on the road. On top of this, the roadworthiness of your car can be a major factor in assessing you claim. If you car was found to be driven in an unsafe condition then your insurer may have the right by an exclusion to refuse your claim in full or in part.

Carrying more passengers than allowed

If you make a claim relating to an accident, your claim may be refused if your vehicle was carrying more passengers than legally allowed at the time. This is because you have violated the law but also for control issue. It is expected that a driver’s control over the vehicle is compromised if there are too many passengers.

Driving under the influence and Driving unregistered

If the driver of the vehicle is found to be driving under the influence or driving unregistered at the time of the claim, then most insurers will refuse to pay claims for damages.
