Average mortgage up 40 per cent

The average size of a home loan has risen by 40 per cent since 2005. In Western Australia the average home loan is now $286,300, up 66 per cent according to Fujitsu Consulting. In the Northern territory, the average home loan has risen 64 per cent to $296,800.

South Australia’s average home loan is up 41 per cent to $220,900, Queensland is up 36 per cent to $282,700, Victoria up 33 per cent to $277,600, ACT up 28 per cent to $282,600, NSW up 26 per cent to $310,000 while average home loan size in Tasmania is up 25 per cent to $194,000. Fujitsu forecasts that house prices will rise by up to 12 per cent around the country over the next year.
