Highest mortgage arrears in Sydney, WA & Qld

23/12/2011

About 1.42 per cent of home loan borrowers across Australia failed to make their mortgage payment within 30 days in September, down from March highs of 1.77 per cent, according to Fitch ratings. Even in parts of the country where mortgage delinquency rates are highest, such as Fairfield and Liverpool in Sydney, fewer borrowers had fallen into arrears, the Fitch report said.

"Sydney's south-western suburbs and the central coast, the Gold Coast in Queensland and the south-west region of Western Australia continue to experience above average arrears," Mr Zanesi said. Queensland was still the worst performing state because of a series of natural disasters. "Fitch has also noticed that an increasing number of the 20 worst performing suburbs in Australia are located in 'tourism destinations' such as Airlie Beach, Noosa Heads, Surfers Paradise and Nelson Bay."
