The Australian median mortgage balance owing has come down in the last three months to $175,500 from $177,300. The average credit card balance owing has also fallen from $1800 to $1673 according to figures from a large survey of consumers by ING. Half of all households have less than $17,000 in total household savings with 17 per cent of households having no savings at all. 11 per cent of households with incomes over $100,000 have no savings.
