Pay taxes promptly to secure frequent flyer bookings

When booking a domestic or international ticket with frequent flyer points, you must still pay for any taxes that apply. On Qantas, these must be paid within three days of making your reservation - or you could lose it. An InfoChoice member lost what he assumed was a confirmed Qantas booking for Sydney-Perth return flight after not being aware of this rule. When he telephoned Qantas to confirm his booking he was advised that his frequent flyer booking was no longer valid as his taxes had not been paid, the only fare available would be the full economy fare of $1,636. He did not take his trip to Perth. Qantas reservations advise all taxes be paid at the time of booking to ensure your frequent flyer booking is secure.
