Sydney Eftpos gang hits Melbourne

10/02/2010

Police are hunting for three men believed to have travelled from Sydney to Melbourne with a large number of fake debit and credit cards that contain PIN and debit card details skimmed from ATMs in New South Wales.

The men are believed to have been using the cards and PIN to withdraw money from machines in and around the city of Melbourne. Det-Sgt Greg Baker from Melbourne CIU said the men emptied their targets' bank accounts and might spend hours at an ATM using card after card to access the funds.

“There is nothing obviously suspicious about their activity aside from spending more time than usual at the machine," Det-Sgt Baker said. Police also believe the men may be part of a larger well organised criminal group and may be responsible for the theft of three Eftpos machines in Melbourne’s suburbs. “They may be staying in Melbourne with friends or at a hotel and we urge anyone who might know their whereabouts or identity to help us out.”
