Android users: Your bank account is under attack

Android phone and tablet users are vulnerable to a new virulent malware attack targeting customers of Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, ANZ and NAB. Other banks in the firing line are Bendigo Bank, St George Bank, Bankwest, ME Bank. The malware also attacks accounts from PayPal, eBay, Skype, WhatsApp and several Google services.

Nick FitzGerald, from digital protection company ESET, said millions of app users are at risk from this “significant attack on the banking sector in Australian and New Zealand.”

Android users can protect themselves by not disabling restrictions that only allow downloads from the Google Play store.
