ANZ takes green lead

ANZ is planning a raft of technology initiatives as it attempts to lead the IT industry in combating climate change. In February, the bank switched off the screen-saver function on its 35,000 personal computers, cutting electricity costs by $500,000 a year and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. ANZ is also planning to pilot telepresence style video-conferencing technology to reduce domestic and international travel time. The bank is conducting a trial of solar powered ATMs in the Solomon Islands, an initiative that could come to Australia. Two full-time staff have been appointed to further investigate other environmental technology initiatives.
