ASX-NZSE merger meets resistance

Controversy surrounds the proposed merger of the Australian and New Zealand stock exchanges as major NZ broking houses met yesterday to discuss the plan. The ASX-NZSE merger was announced in August this year and has since generated debate with some fearing lower trading volumes traded through NZ brokers and harsher listing and supervisory NZSE rules. An agreement outlining the merger process is expected to be released on Friday.
