ATM ads coming to a machine near you
Controversy has erupted over the decision to introduce advertising on ATMs with detractors arguing that consumers are already bombarded with too much advertising as it is. However, POS Media Online intends to begin trials of ATM advertisements – to be screened while customers make transactions –believing it to be a promising marketing tool. The ads will promote a range of products from Internet sites to cars and will screen as the customer approaches the ATM and while waiting for their cash and receipt. POS Media Online chief executive Mr Peter Aynsley, says the ATM ads will be between 3 and 7 seconds in duration and will not slow down the transaction process. But Ms Lesley Brydon, executive director of the Advertising Federation of Australia, believes that the ATM ads have the potential to frustrate and annoy customers if placed in inappropriate positions. Depending on the success of the trial next month, the ATM ads could go Australia-wide by the end of the year.
