Aussie health care 29th in the world

In a global survey of the world's health systems by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Australia has been ranked 29th out of 55 based on fairness of financial contribution. WHO director general Dr Gro Harlem stressed the importance of moderating the private health insurance market to avoid discrepancies and to ensure the best distribution of resources. This supports a similar argument by Medicare architect Professor John Deeble who questioned the Federal Government's multi-billion dollar support for private health insurance. Dr Harlem also stated that health should be the overall responsibility of the government endorsing universal health systems like Medicare.
