Aussies spend $47K on their cards
The most recent data for July shows there are 34.5 million debit cards compared to 13.5 million credit cards in circulation.
New research by data firm Quantium compiled for the National Australia Bank shows the average Australian spent almost $47,000 last year through the electronic channels of credit or debit cards.
The flexibility and security of debit cards over cash or credit cards has made them increasingly attractive for the under 30s market.
But with big purchases such as bills and shopping the research shows that Australian shoppers are 45 per cent more likely to use a credit card.
