Bankers coy on small business forum

The Australian Bankers' Association has not named any of the participants in its Small Business Consultative Forum, which has already met twice, saying it hasn't yet had permission from those involved. ABA director Tony Burke said issues to be tackled by the forum include bank staff's ability to understand and deal with small business concerns, fees and charges, provision of products suiting small business needs, access to bank branches and online banking.

One active business member of the forum said her priority is to get banks to look at the bigger picture when dealing with small business. One of the key issues is access to online banking. Another forum member, the Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia, said it wants to see a reduction in the amount of red tape small businesses come up against when they deal with banks.
