Banks change retail approach
Australian banks have renewed their focus on their retail outlets, or branches. Recently National Australia Bank has replaced traditional tellers' counters and glass security screens with tables and comfortable chairs, and introduced flat screen TVs to dispense information to customers. Andrew Thorburn, head of National Australia Bank, says it's about both changing the public's perception and the experience of using branches. NAB, ANZ, CBA, Westpac and St George have all committed to opening more branches this year.
