Banks refuse to be gambling police

In its submission to the Federal Government's inquiry into interactive gambling, the Australian Bankers' Association says it's neither feasible nor appropriate for financial institutions to be used as enforcement agencies. In addition, it would be both costly and difficult, says the ABA. The ABA submission comes in response to suggestions that banks and other financial institutions block the use of credit cards for illegal online betting. At present no Australian-based online casino may offer services to gamblers, however it's easy for them to access overseas online casinos.
