Bushfire cash starting to flow

The first round of payments from the Bushfire Appeal Fund will be made to affected households this week.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said families would get an average of $10,000 immediately to help with rebuilding. Each household can get an immediate grant of $5,000 plus $2,000 per additional adult and $1,500 per child.

People who have been seriously injured can get an extra $7,500 while the Victorian government is offering a $10,000 contribution towards funeral expenses.

The Bushfire Appeal Advisory Committee said this round of grants are on top of the previously announced $10,000 grants for compassionate and bereavement purposes.

The funeral grants can be accessed through Centrelink on 180 22 11.
