Diners Club revamps Qantas points

Diners Club has developed a new rewards program to replace the scheme associated with the failed Ansett Airlines.

Customers can now redeem tickets with eight international airlines, which include Qantas, with car hire, accommodation, holidays, goods purchases, and gift vouchers. The base rate for the scheme is one reward point for each dollar spent, 33 per cent less generous than the Ansett scheme. Westpac is also likely to announce a similar scheme, with Qantas included.

The schemes will strengthen Qantas's share of the Australian aviation market but InfoChoice warns that it will be harder to redeem flyer points for flights with Qantas. With capacity squeezed, there will likely be less seats available per flight for frequent flyer redemptions.
