DIY funds may claim back super tax

A do-it-yourself superannuation fund may be able to claim back the tax paid on super benefits following the death of the member of the fund. DIY funds, like other super funds, can claim a “section 279d anti-detriment payment”. This means that, following the death of a member of the fund, the fund may pay dependents between $3,000 and $16,000 for each $100,000 of benefits.
