Doubts over Ansett II’s future

Time is running out for those attempting to resuscitate Ansett as a long-term viable airline.

The former Ansett CEO, Graeme McMahon, who heads the ANstaff syndicate looking to buy the airline, has admitted that it is difficult to raise funds given the current global economic downturn. He says that every day that goes buy it becomes a harder task as Qantas locks in dominant market share.

Meanwhile, the Melbourne businessmen, Lindsay Fox and Solomon Lew, are putting pressure on Ansett's administrator. Sources say that the pair have threatened to drop negotiations over the future of Ansett unless the Australian Government provides a grant and Andersen deals with them exclusively.
