Employers package cars and school fees rather than super
Only one company in four large companies makes superannuation contributions on behalf of their employees in excess of the minimum set by law, and this proportion is in decline. A survey of 844 companies by the Australian Institute of Management found 42 per cent did so, down from 48 per cent a year ago. Previous surveys showed the number of companies making extra super contributions was increasing. However, the amount employers are spending on all other salary package benefits, such as cars, fuel allowance, parking and entertainment, increased.
