Five-year super returns looking better

Five-year-return figures for many superannuation funds will surpass double digits this financial year, research house SuperRatings said. The researcher said in the September 2006 quarter the median five-year figure is now 9.1 per cent, up from 8.1 per cent in August. All main asset classes recorded positive returns for September, with the better contributors being international shares, up 2.7 per cent in the month after fees and tax, and property, which was marginally higher with a net 2.9 per cent gain, due mainly to the listed property market. Westscheme reported a return of 15 per cent in the year to September 2006, followed by Telstra Super (13.7 per cent) and MTAA (13.6 per cent).
