Government says ATM fees are no problem

A government review of ATM fees has concluded that the industry is “highly successful” but has come under heavy criticism from consumer groups.

Choice said “the government’s response fails to recognise that ATMs are not working in customers’ best interests.”

The Consumer Law Action Centre called for a ban on fees for checking balances. The government taskforce recommended that fee be disclosed by the ATM before a transaction begins.
