Holiday rebate program delayed
The $150 holiday rebate program planned by the Federal Government has been delayed until February 2002.
The holiday rebate was announced in October by Tourism Minister Jackie Kelly to help stimulate the domestic tourism industry following the collapse of Ansett and the terrorist attacks in the US.
Approximately 33,000 grants will be made available between 1 February 2002 and 30 April 2002. To be eligible applicants must purchase a pre-booked package worth over $750 excluding airfares from a licensed travel agent. Applicants must spend at least three nights in a hotel or motel.
Details about how the rebate will operate and how applicants can apply will be released on Friday.
