Housing study will dig deep

The Productivity Commission inquiry into housing affordability will cover a wide spectrum of issues including the impact of federal factors such as capital gains tax and negative gearing – regarded as sacrosanct by many property investors. The inquiry will also examine a number of state government issues such as stamp duty, land tax, infrastructure charges, land releases and planning controls. Also to be considered is the proposal for equity-share arrangements between occupiers and financial institutions put forward by the Prime Minister's Task Force On Home Ownership.
