Insurers offer cover for local events

Allianz Australia, NRMA Insurance and QBE Insurance will band together to offer public liability insurance cover for non-profit associations such as ratepayer associations, pensioner groups and local drama and musical society groups. Excluded are major sporting clubs and religious groups, and also likely to be excluded are any groups with poor loss histories, high risk or overseas exposures.

The cover will only be available in New South Wales and the ACT and also needs to be approved by the ACCC, to show there is no price collusion between the three providers. The cover will be capped at $10 million per policy, with volunteers covered for injuries to others but not to themselves.
