Is the crackdown on investment lending working?

The Australian banking regulator, the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, has imposed stricter criteria on banks and credit unions lending to property investors. APRA has told lenders that it is paying particular attention to high LVR lending.

However, about 61 per cent of Australian lenders are now lending up to 90 per cent for investment property loans.

A senior mortgage broker said “the banks have been hurting a bit” and “they now want more of the investment lending pie”.
