Low fares still available
Since the announcement of the demise of Impulse no special fares have been withdrawn from any of the other three airlines. Qantas and Ansett are still offering identical specials on several destinations. Sydney-Melbourne $66, Melbourne-Brisbane $88 and Adelaide-Sydney $99, also offered by Virgin Blue.
Virgin Blue has announced a new route Sydney-Gold Coast(Coolanagatta) with an opening special of $55 and have also released a special fare to commence their launch of the Melbourne-Adelaide route of $48.
The only change to the Impulse web site has been that their lowest web-only fares cease from May 14 with the exception of Sydney-Canberra $108 and Melbourne-Canberra $121.
Websavers, www red e-deals, web hot & fair fare these are the names used by all four players still actively discounting on the internet. This is the major way these discount fares are purchased. However, Impulse Airlines and Virgin Blue will book a “web fare” over the telephone at a cost of $2 one-way.
The question being asked with the anticipated amalgamation of Impulse Airlines and Qantas is will discounted fares still be offered in the near future. Our advice is that you book your domestic travel for 2001 as soon as possible to take advantage of these discount fares still on offer.
