Making payments without banks a realistic option

Years ago a bank account was an option, not a basic necessity. During the past 30 years, our employers and the social security system have required us to have accounts to receive wages and benefits. A growing number of financial service companies have begun to offer basic financial services to compete with the banks. There are now several options to bank accounts which warrant investigation: Retail cards, travel cards and wage cards that benefit business and employees. These novel systems are efficient, often accessible on-line, but there is still a cost involved. The challenge is to find the system that offers best value for money.
