Mobiles calls up to report Aussie gold

Telstra mobile users are making record calls during the Olympics particularly at moments before and after major events when Australia has won gold. Since the opening ceremony last week, 2 million calls have been made with traffic peaking on Tuesday night after the men’s 4 x 200m freestyle relay and women’s 200m freestyle win. Telstra has devoted over $130 million to increasing its mobile network coverage to ensure it copes with the extra Olympic traffic. Though Cable & Wireless Optus and Vodafone have not officially released figures, it is predicted that they too have recorded an increase in mobile call usage.
