More rules for Telcos and MNP

The Australian Communications Authority has told telecommunications companies to lift their game when it comes to porting customers over. The ACA has introduced new performance standards for the telcos to comply with.

These are that the companies must transfer 90% of customers within three hours of the request and no transfer should take longer than two days.

The carriers have been asked to report to the ACA weekly so they can monitor the situation and progress. If the companies standards are still below the expected, further action may be taken.

Since MNP was introduced on the 25th September, 2001 there has been more than 7,000 people ported to a new network. Most of these ports were performed within three hours, some even being complete within 15 minutes.
