Myer can’t take a trick in retail market

Investment bank ABN AMRO in a new study of the retail sector said Coles Myer had lost seven percentage points in market share over the nine years since 1996, with the Myer department store chain the persistent weak link in the company. ABN said Woolworths' Big W chain was the biggest winner, as the discount department store took sales from the mid-market positioning of Myer. Up-market rival David Jones also lost market share.
