National Mutual to become AXA Australia

A report published in the Australian Financial Review today claims that National Mutual will be changing its name to AXA Australia by the end of August.

The Paris-based AXA has owned 51 per cent of National Mutual since the early 1990’s. According to the report, AXA has been pressuring National Mutual to change its name for the last few years. While the plan had originally been for the process to take three years, due to the delay caused by Y2K compliance, the choice was made to move the process forward rather than delay it.

The change in name will firstly affect product branding, with the “umbrella brand” of National Mutual Holdings following later.
