Newcastle port of call for NZ flights
A recent study has proposed Newcastle as a feasible trans-Tasman market that would also relieve congestion pressure from Sydney airport. The study, conducted by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation, predicts that at least one of the main airlines will launch daily flights between Newcastle and Auckland within 12 months. The study also stated that Sydney airport traffic would be relieved if the Newcastle plan went ahead. Newcastle interests have expressed support for the idea and Qantas says it will consider the study’s suggestions. However, the federal Government must approve the proposal for it to be implemented.
