No air strike over Easter

Air traffic controllers have ruled out industrial action over Easter despite their pay claims not yet being resolved.

Yesterday their five-hour walkout caused flight delays and cancellations. Despite the disruption to services, however, most travellers on major city routes fitted on other flights and the backlog was close to being cleared by 8pm.

The hardest hit were passengers attempting to get to regional areas. Qantas had to cancel almost 60 QantasLink services and reschedule 124 flights to regional and leisure destinations. The flying schedules of Virgin Blue and Hazelton were also disrupted.
