PM Julia Gillard is angry at the banks

“I’m angry and I understand why Australians with mortgages are angry,” said prime minister Julia Gillard yesterday. “We can increase competition and that’s the package the treasurer is working on now,” she said. Cabinet is believed to be considering a ban on mortgage exit fees as part of its competition in banking package.

Opposition Leader said the prime minister’s response is not good enough. “People facing cost of living pressures, people facing higher mortgage interest rates, they want action, they don’t want anger.”
