Property spruikers remain active
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission wants property spruikers to provide financial compensation to their victims. This would require parliament to adopt news laws, however, and the government is not inclined. The Parliamentary Secretary to the federal Treasurer said the government favoured using existing laws to compensate victims. ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said spruikers were still active despite a crackdown on false and misleading activities by wealth-creation promoters.
