Qantas eyes Ansett frequent flyer partners

Qantas is planning to sign frequent flyer alliances with Diners Club and Westpac Bank, former Ansett Global Rewards partners.

The move will boost the airline's chances of monopolising the Australian domestic airline market. The alliance with Westpac alone will increase Qantas's 2.8 million frequent flyer program members by between 20% and 30%.

The alliance, in combination with Qantas's existing agreements with American Express and ANZ Bank, will give the airline deals with Australia's four largest credit card companies. Qantas's main rival, Ansett, has had its Global Rewards program suspended since 12 September 2001.
