Qantas looks to unload

Qantas shares surged to a record $5.46 a share as the airline considers possible demerger options of non-core assets. Analysts believe several operations within Qantas including budget airline JetStar, Qantas Frequent Flyer, Qantas Freight and Flight Catering may be offloaded. Analysts believe the moves to offload these assets could deliver the airline as much as $4 billion with the Qantas Frequent Flyer program alone valued at up to $3 billion. Qantas Chief Executive Geoff Dixon made it clear that whilst Qantas are considering alternatives the budget airline JetStar is not up for sale.
