Qantas merger partner need not be Singapore Airlines

Qantas chief executive Geoff Dixon said the airline would merge with another international airline within five to 10 years, but it would not necessarily be Singapore Airlines. “There is no particular issue of Singapore Airlines and Qantas; there'll be Qantas and someone else,” Dixon told the Nine Network's Business Sunday program. Prime Minister John Howard revealed last week that he had discussed a possible merger of Qantas and Singapore Airlines with his Singapore counterpart, Lee Hsien Loong, in a private conversation two weeks ago.
