Qantas serves up expired food
1,000 out-of-date Qantas meals were thrown out after staff refused to serve them. However, staff have claimed that meals that were either out-of-date or on their use-by date had already been served to passengers. Transport Workers Union organiser, Richard Olsen, said that 2,000 beef burgundy meals with a use-by date of October 3 were served as recently as last week. Mr Olsen pointed out that 12 month old meals do not comply with Qantas’s food quality policy that is meant to ensure that the best quality food be served at all times. In response, Qantas says an expired use-by date on meals does not mean that the food is unsafe to eat. Qantas also claims it had consulted a microbiologist who confirmed that the food was safe.
