Qantas to decide on no-frills carrier soon

Qantas will decide whether to launch a budget international airline within the next few days, the airline's CEO Geoff Dixon said yesterday. Last year, Qantas announced that it was planning to launch the no-frills Australian Airlines this August, flying on routes that Qantas could not afford to service. The airline was to be based in Cairns.

Mr Dixon said that the deadline for the decision on whether to launch the offshoot airline or not is next week. He said: we must either press the button and let it go, or otherwise not; we'll make that decision in the next couple of days.
