Qantas to launch budget international airline
Qantas has announced plans to launch an off shoot budget airline to fly international routes it no longer services. The proposed low cost airline would fly to destinations such as Korea, Malaysia, Tahiti and Japan which Qantas has abandoned in favour of increasing its presence in the domestic market. China and Canada have also been listed as possible new routes for the yet-to-be-named airline. Qantas chief executive designate, Geoff Dixon, said Qantas was to negotiate lower wages for flight attendants for the budget airline (approx $45,000 pa instead of the Qantas award of $59,000 pa) in order to get the new airline under way.
