Rudd says yes to paid parental leave

New mothers will get $543 per week for up to 18 weeks, while fathers will get two weeks paid leave after the birth of a baby. The money will be provided directly from the government and will be on top of any benefits paid by the employer. The productivity commission plan is likely to be accepted by the Rudd government. Working mothers would no longer be eligible for the $5,000 baby bonus while stay-at-home mothers could continue to receive it.
