Skimmers need your PIN say police

Police found a sophisticated card skimming device attached to a busy city ATM yesterday. The skimmer was uncovered on a St George Bank ATM at the intersection of Park and Castlereagh Sts in Sydney at 3pm.

ATM users should protect their PIN by covering their hand with a newspaper say NSW police. "People can examine ATM's for skimming devices but some of them are hard to detect because they are made to fit the particular model of ATM," Superintendent Col Dyson said.

"I would advise people to look for the device at the ATM but I would not rely on that alone. It's better to protect your pin. Without the pin number, there is nothing the crooks can get. Protect your pin from above with your hand or whatever you have around, like a newspaper."
