Sydney buyers miss stamp duty discount
Some Sydney first-home buyers are missing out on stamp duty discounts because the $300,000 property price threshold has not changed since the scheme was introduced in 2000 while house prices have soared. Figures for 30 postcodes last financial year show that in Cherrybrook not one person received the discount while in many other suburbs there was only a handful. In Wattle Grove and Holsworthy, five people obtained the discount for a total of $4,008. The suburbs where the highest numbers of discounts were received were Warnervale-Wyong with 286, Hinchinbrook and surrounds 159 and 198 in the St Andrews-Minto area.
