Telstra customers cop card surcharge

Telstra will be the second major company to introduce a credit card surcharge following Qantas, after announcing a raft of increases to phone charges. Customers paying their bill with a credit or charge card will pay from 0.63 per cent to 1.69 per cent more than those using other payment methods from July 26. The surcharge level will vary according to the type of card used. Diners and American Express charge cards are expected to attract the highest fees. There are fears that Telstra's move will lead to other utilities opting to charge card surcharges to bill payments.
