Telstra may offer local zone call for mobiles
In a bid to attract more customers, Telstra is considering introducing a local zone-style mobile service that would allow users to make local calls on their mobile within a designated “home zone”. The service, which is similar to Hutchison Telecommunications's Orange One product, would help Telstra to install a second phone newtwork in capital cities and regional areas at low cost. It is also a strategy to boost the number of subscribers to its CDMA network which cost $600 million to build but has a mere 400,000 subscribers.
