Telstra to separate wholesale business

Telstra will undertake a corporate restructure in which it will split its wholesale business off into a separate division. The plan is designed to appease the competition watchdog and help ensure support from the National Party for the sale of the federal government’s remaining 51 per cent stake in the telco. Telstra’s competitors have long complained the company uses its monopoly control of the network to hinder competition. The wholesale division includes Telstra's internet business BigPond, its phone directories business Sensis and its 50 per cent stake in pay-TV group Foxtel.
