Tips for overcoming debt stress

In Western Australia just over a third of the population are affected by debt stress.

Getting on top of debt allows people to really forge ahead financially – and lift the emotional stress debt. AMP has some top tips:

Review your bank statements and analyse ‘problem’ areas in your spending habits. Draw up a budget. There are many good ones available free online.

Stay away from the shops unless a visit is strictly necessary.

Take your lunch to work – or at least don’t buy it every day.

Give up alcohol for a few months.

Discover free entertainment – for example, catch up with friends by exercising together outdoors.
